MEASURING 8 FEET HIGH and 98 feet in length, this collaborative installation by twelve artists from the Washington, DC area New Image Group is a variable installation comprising 768 twelve-inch squares. Conceived by group member Patricia Autenrieth, the look of the Hive Project changes every time it is shown, inviting each venue's curator into the collaboration.

Many of the artists--Patricia Autenrieth, Jeanne Benson, Ardyth Davis, Michele Duell, Amanda Ford, Lesly-Claire Greenberg, Dorothy Holden, Catherine Kleeman, Dominie Nash, Sue Pierce, Linda Tilton and Michele Vernon--are nationally known quilt artists, teachers and authors who were looking for a way to enlarge the scope of the quilt as an art medium, and to bring it into public view.

While New Image members have long experience with collaboration—see their current one, Hardware—this remains their most ambitious. Learn more about the artists and about exhibiting the Hive Project.
